Cute. The old people/young people differences are amusing. I guess I’m right in between, finding myself sometimes not understanding the post-retirement age group, while at the same time sometimes feeling the same way about under 30- (or even under-40) crowd.
In reply to - Cinthya N posted an update: Read Moment magazine today and came across an interesting and funny (on purpose) letter to shul membership committees. I especially enjoyed the third and and fifth points…read it all here: http://www.momentmag.com/Exclusive/2010/2010-02/201002-Lighter_Moment.html · View -

Greater Chicago Jewish Festival http://www.pocet.org/ This year’s event will be on June 13, 2010, 11am-6pm, St. Paul Woods, Morton Grove Held every other year, this festival is a blast! We usually ride our bikes over to it to avoid the parking hassles because it attracts lots of people: they are expecting 40,000 this year which [...]

The editing feature isn’t working. So here’s my update:
The current number of businesses signed up with Tav HaYosher is 36.
It has already signed on businesses out of the area (“is expanding” sounded like it wasn’t done yet): 7 in IL (Skokie=Chicagoland), 1 in PA, 1 in MD -

This post is in response to Karen’s post, but I’m creating this new subsection. The following webpage provides a list of the restaurants in New York state, sorted by region and proximity one to the next: http://www.nachas.org/BethYehuda/kosher.html It lists price categories and hashgacha. The information is actually from Aliza Hausman who replied to my question [...]

Even before I could post it myself, one of the RA members of my minyan posted the same RA notice as the above on the minyan email “bulletin board”. So I think word about this bill is certainly getting out.

I sent my first one off. Even though these emails are probably not read, I modified mine to add that I have a personal stake in this. You see, I lived in Israel for a summer as a non-Jew 15 years ago, and although I have no immediate plans to make aliyah, I’d certainly want [...]

Both of my minyanim allow the shaliach tzibur to choose whether or not to include the Matriarchs, which is done 20-25% of the time. My Skokie minyan uses the older full Sim Shalom version that does not have the Matriarchs so sometimes that part of the davening doesn’t exactly correspond to the siddur. My Rogers [...]

You’re going to love it, Avi! If you’re not thrilled with it, and you bought the paperback, I’ll buy it from you and pay mailing costs. That way I’ll have a more compact copy to bring to Israel when I go this summer.

I like the ”interlinear” translation which is helpful for those of us who know enough Hebrew to understand some, but not all of the words of the prayers, and want to understand more of the Hebrew of the prayers themselves rather than just a complete English translation.

http://www.korensiddur.com/ This is an awesome Hebrew-English Modern Orthodox siddur. The best aspect is the beautiful and well thought out layout. One of the first things you notice is that the English translation is on the *right-hand page*. This turns out to be a better choice because then the justified sides of the English and Hebrew [...]
