Let’s Go Kosher!!! Let’s Go Primal!!!
I’ve been meaning to post about these things for at least a year now but I never seem to get around to doing it. That is until today!
About a year and a half ago (or maybe it was closer to two who knows,) I was introduced to “Primal Strips” by (my then girlfriend and now wife) Tamara. We were looking for portable kosher treats that were also vegetarian and that could easily be taken on road trips and most importantly, could be stored without requiring any refrigeration.
According to the manufacturers (Primal Spirit Foods) all of their products are: Vegan, Kosher, All natural, No preservatives, Nothing artificial, High Protein, No Cholesterol, Low Fat, Healthy, and contain Non-GMO’s. I would add that they taste absolutely delicious as well! Okay, I haven’t tasted every single product as of yet but I’ve had had a chance to try quite a few of them and I haven’t been disappointed by any of them. What I like about Primal Strips is that they are: a) Kosher b) vegetarian and c) highly portable in that they can be carried in a bag or pocket without any problems and can even sit in a dashboard glove compartment for weeks if not months and still taste great.
Let’s face it if you are serious about Kashrut and keeping kosher you know how hard it is to eat kosher on the road. All right it’s actually easy to eat kosher on the road, if you’re down with soda, M&Ms, potato chips, Krispy Kreme donuts or any other assortment of “ Heckscherd” junk food products. The problem is really more along the lines of finding “healthier” kosher food choices on the road. Especially half decent sources of protein. Well after having field tested this product for over a year and a half now, I can safely say that Primal Strips are a great way of helping to solve the “Kosher on the go” problem.
I usually buy them by the dozen or so and keep them around for emergency situations. They’re not really a food I eat at home so much but rather something I keep for when I’m out of the house. Like I mentioned above their great for road trips because they can be stored in the car and that way when I’m on a 3 or 4 Hour Drive I can just pull one out when I get hungry. They also make a perfect midday snack at work or school because they are individually wrapped and can be easily thrown into a book bag or lunchbox.
Another bonus is that they’re relatively inexpensive. I’ve been able to find them for anywhere from $.98 to about $1.50. I try to keep them as a snack and not use them as a meal replacement but in a pinch I’m sure that eating two or three of them would be able to put a dent in your hunger and keep you going for a couple of hours. Recently I’ve been carrying them with me in a backpack when I’m out hiking because they are (as I’ve already mentioned) very portable and are a decent source of protein, while I’m on the trail.
You can find Primal Strips at most health food stores and today I discovered that you can order them in bulk online here.
Anyhow, they really are of great food for making life a little easier when it comes to keeping kosher on the go.
If anyone does try them I’d love to hear what you think.
These rock!
Why yes they do Huw!
