Yet Another Jewish Magazine, Brought to You by Your’s Truly :)
While meaning to go to the Jewish Living Magazine website, I accidentally found American Jewish Life Magazine.
Based on their “about us” page, this is geared at men. Here’s how they describe it.
This isn’t your grandmother’s Jewish publication. It’s more like Esquire or GQ grew a beard and donned a yarmulke. We strive to be the best journalistic offering in the Jewish market pairing provocative stories with inspiring and intriguing profiles of Jewish people making a difference. Whether it’s a hot Jewish celebrity or a former wrestler turned Orthodox auto mechanic, we’ve got you covered in the “Where did they find that?” story department. We’re quite sure your grandmother would be proud.
Our regular coverage includes book and music reviews, plus author interviews. We also have essays on subjects both serious and light-hearted, compelling profiles of Jewish celebrities, quirky members of the tribe, and other Jews of note, and features on hot trends and provocative issues. Plus you don’t want to miss our Answer Maven, food stories, and culture awards.
Thought I’d share since many people look for new magazines and this one, although seemingly like other magazines, is geared at Jewish men so that’s kind of cool. Enjoy.
Hi Tamara,
Thanks for posting the link to this magazine! I checked both out actually, and I made a couple of observations:
The one seemingly geared toward women - JLM - had stuff about kids, mezuzot, food, etc…. The men’s one - AJL - has “cocktails with Steve Koonin,” Jewish celeb gossip… which gave me pause at first. But I looked a little closer and it did seem to have some interesting articles, particularly the one on the “Six who Matter.”
So while AJL appears to be a little lightweight, it may have some potential for showing some (relatively) real American Jewish life.
Thanks again!
Yair
Interesting find Tamara! I see that the got some kind of JewSchool award back in 2005. To be honest ( and although I sure this is a good fit for many) it all seems just, a little slick a la GQ for me.
But hey, what do I know?
I will add it to our Magazine Links section.
