Let’s Talk about Kippot With Michele Holtz & Cantor Leigh Korn
A few weeks back the “Your Jewish Neighborhood” podcast, which is produced by the fine folks of Temple Isaiah (a Reform synagogue in Lafayette, California), did an interesting episode on the how’s, why’s and when’s of Kippot sporting. I am listening to it now as write up this post, and loving it. It’s not a scholarly or exhaustive exploration of the history/practice of Kippot within the Jewish tradition, but I think it will serve as an excellent (101) introduction for many of our readers. Temple Isaiah is a Reform shul, so the info has a “liberal” bend to it. However having said that, Canter Korn does a great job of exploring this topic from a broader context which includes both (his understanding of) the Conservative and Orthodox take on Kippot as well as a nice history of this practice.
Lastly, he also discusses women and Kippot which (based on my recent post) is sure to be of interest to some of our readers.
Enjoy and as always feel free to share your thoughts on the podcast.
